Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 7.17.46 pmHi I’m Linda Walker from Breast Success. I provide professional and personalised breastfeeding help and support in the comfort of your own home. I am a qualified International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and Karitane Mothercraft Nurse and work with mothers and their families in the St George/Sutherland Shire region of Sydney.

Working with mothers/families and their infants has been my passion throughout my career. I trained as a Mothercraft Nurse with Karitane in 1983 and have continued working with families ever since. Initially and for 22 years, I worked in a community setting with infants 0-2 years of age. During this time I had my own two beautiful children who were both breastfed and now ready to leave the nest as they say!

Working in the private hospital maternity setting from 2006, I have become even more focused on breastfeeding. I decided to become a Lactation Consultant, as I observed mothers in the initial stages of breastfeeding and felt very motivated to help them. The knowledge I gained from becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2012 has enabled me to support mothers with their breastfeeding knowledge and outcomes based on the latest information available.

As well as being a Private Practice Lactation Consultant, I work in a hospital setting in the local area. I work in a Level 2 Special Care Nursery, on the Maternity Ward and in the Lactation Clinic. In these settings I provide one on one Lactation Consultations with mothers of full term and premature infants, conduct group Breastfeeding and Sleep and Settling classes. I provide individualised breastfeeding plans for mothers and their infants, based on their history and specifically focusing on their personal goals. Ongoing management of breastfeeding issues is very important and as a Lactation Consultant I collaborate with Doctors, Early Childhood Centres and Allied Health Professionals. Working in the hospital setting requires me to be up to date in mandatory skills, record keeping, note care plans and referrals.

The need for more Lactation Support in the local community has become apparent. The success and duration of breastfeeding rates can only be maintained and improved with knowledge and support.
